Celebrating Independence Day, APHR style!

To celebrate the coming Independence Day Weekend, I thought we would take a look back at some of the great colonial taverns covered on American Public House Review, as well as those places that are in their own way connected to the events that led to the founding of our nation.

Our first stop takes us to Newport, Rhode Island and the oldest operating tavern in the county.  The White Horse Tavern is like a time-capsule of the colonial period.  Its charm and beauty are a direct extension of the care and love shown this place by publicans for centuries.

Chris Poh visited the White Horse for APHR a few years back, and many time before that as a patron.  His article tells the Tavern’s amazing story and remind us of Newport’s contribution to the cause of independence.  He also evokes the Comte de Rochambeau, the French commander who did so much to help found the United States
